Be grateful for everything.

Even in times of sorrow and hardship. After hardship, comes happiness. Remember that both moments are temporary; what’s permanent is the life after the Akhirat (Hereafter).

So, say “Alhamdulillah” and focus on the Creator who creates pain, not the pain itself. :)

Of Nabi Muhammad s.a.w., the greatest man ever lived…

“He had listened to women in his society, who often experienced denial of their rights, exclusion, and ill-treatment. Revelation recalls this listening and this accessibility: “God has indeed heard the statement of the woman who pleads with you concerning her husband and carries her complaint to God. And God hears the argument between both of you. For God hears and sees [all things].” Similarly, he listened to a woman who wanted to divorce her husband because she did not like him anymore; he heard her, looked into the matter, and separated them. He also received another woman who complained that her father had married her off without asking for her opinion; he was ready to separate her and husband, but she informed him that she was actually satisfied with her father’s choice but wanted to make it known “to fathers” that “this was not their decision” and that they could not act in such a way without seeking their daughter’s consent. (pg 213)”

Let’s share our thoughts and opinions #1

Assalammualaikum, my favourite girls!

Let’s discuss something: Love, InshAllah, a book On Muslim Women, sex and love. To read more about it, go to Source 1 and Source 2.

One of the editors, Ayesha Mattu said that, “One of my greatest desires for this book is for it to break down the barriers between the generations, and to really be a tool for discussion within families.”

In your opinion, how successful is the book in “break(ing) down the barriers between the generations, and… be a tool for discussion within families”? Do you think such books should be produced? Are there more cons or pros in producing it? What kind of image does the book reflect of us as Muslim Women?

My dear sisters, what do you think?

Quote Post Wed, Feb. 22, 2012 28 notes

“The beauty of the Muslim Ummah is that it is considered to be so close knit that the Prophet Muhammad (salallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “The believers, in their love, mutual kindness and close ties, are like one body; when any part complains, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.” [Muslim]. What initially compels many non-Muslims who hang out with Muslims to actually research the deen is the brotherhood in Islam, and it is this element that was almost palpable to me when I attended talks and gatherings of sisters at my University Islamic Society. Although I hadn’t adopted hijaab at the time, most sisters treated me like, well, a fellow sister in Islam. One of the most loving women to have moved and inspired me was an older lady called sister Anees, who looked past my non-hijaabi outward appearance and saw something else there, in my heart. Her acceptance of me, her kind regard of me, her gentility and patience was a quiet force that kept pulling me back to every talk she gave, even though I stuck out like a sore thumb in the crowd and occasionally felt so out of place.”

A new start!

Assalamualaikum my favourite girls! I’ll be sharing more articles from now on, so please stay tuned for more! :)

To start with…

This is exactly what I’m trying to avoid, but this is what they’re promoting and yet, they label themselves as encouraging “Islamic Branding”.

—-

Making a statement with fashion

The context: More and more young women in minority Muslim countries are choosing to wear the ‘hijab’, the colloquial term for the cloth that covers the hair, but is used loosely to mean veiling for religious reasons. They also have a love of fashion, exactly like their wider peer group. They see no contradiction between the love of their faith and their love of fashion. In fact, they seem them as complementary. It is worth noting that these women no longer believe that women’s images must be hidden. They are proud and comfortable being out in the public domain. In fact, they see fashion as a tool to make a statement about their faith.

The concept: The Khushbu advert taps in very overtly to this desire for fashion amongst the young faithful women. The advert is bold and bright and offers words that its target audience can identify with.

What we liked: The advert takes pride in its display of fashion and faith as something that comes together. The colouring bold, the imagery is clear and the woman is not hiding nor is she hidden. This appeals to the young female Muslim fashionista who wants to make a statement about herself and her faith. The words chosen are likely to be those that the target audience would choose for themselves. They will like the fact that these words are totally different to the ones that they would normally see associated with wearing hijab, which are often negative. The advert offers a sense of collectivity and affiliation, a sense that it is right, proper and enjoyable to be faithful and fashionable, offering a sense of belonging and acceptance to a wider community.

Only Allah knows best the intention of these people. Subhanallah.

Hijab Photo Competition (HPC) IIContestant #26: Siyma Karim from United States
Reason for why your photo represents “A True Hijabi: Allah tells us in surah nur, ayah 30-31
“…and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bossoms)…”
the scarf covers my bossoms and it’s worn with a long (maxi) cardigan over a black maxi dress. I hope that proper hijab?

I dress modestly for the sake of Allah (SWT) and that is why I dress the way I do. Alhamdulilah, the right way.

Reason for why your photo represents “A True Hijabi”:I always feel comfortable in my own skin, makeup-less and effortless, just the way Allah created me. I’m reminded by the beauty He graced me with because I’m consciously covering it everyday. Best of all, people immediately see me for who I am— a peaceful individual, a thinker, an artist, and most importantly a loving servant of Allah. Alhamdulillah for hijab, it is truly a blessing by Allah’s wisdom in ways that we can never fully comprehend. :)

I am wearing an abaya, also following the guidlines set by Allah (SWT). My gaze is lowered. I am facing away from the mirror to symbolize my lack of concern with the social standards set for beauty. I am reading the Qur’an, to show my full concern for strengthening my Iman and beautifying my soul rather than my physical appearance.

Reason for why your photo represents “A True Hijabi”: Assalamualaikum. The photo that I submitted for “A True Hijabi” contest might well presented as a true hijabi. A true hijabi not only cover their head in a modest way, but also their body by wearing a loose clothes. Plus, avoid put on too much make-up that will obscure a modesty in a true hijabi. What most important in wearing hijab is, not only the hair being covered, but also the chest area. A true hijabi cover what should be cover without being an attention seeker. We seek Allah’s attention, not the public’s.

Reason for why your photo represents “A True Hijabi”:It is difficult to define what the terms “true hijabi” means. It certainly does not matter if someone’s hijab is leopard-print or black or polka dotted, it all comes down to the actual person and how they choose to portray and dress themselves.

Hijab Photo Competition (HPC) IIContestant #18: Adetya Ghassani N. from Indonesia
Reason for why your photo represents “A True Hijabi”:True hijab comes from the inside and should also reflect the outer appearance. Hijab delivers the elegance of muslim women. Some people said that a true woman is not one who reveals her beauty/body in order to please others. Rather, a true woman is one who covers her beauty/body in order to please her creator! Simply for me, the woman who keeps in track in high faith to the only God is called true hijabi and I’m on my way to improving myself. Insya Allah :)
