Islam has taught me that men and women are equal, that individuals should not be judged according to gender, beauty, wealth, or privilege. The only thing that makes one person better than another is her or his character. The best characteristic of a Hijabi is modesty and sincerity. I believe that my picture represents both and shows the welcoming face of Islam and the beauty and simplicity of Hijab. Hijab is not a responsibility, it’s a right given to me by my Creator who knows us best, subhanAllah.

This photo was taken when my band and I were performing on the art night in one of university here in Surabaya. Though I am a vocalist, and my boys in my band are not moslem , I still wear my hijab when we’re on stage, and still have a great look, don’t I? This is why this photo represent me as a true hijabi.

We’re bestfriends. Our friendship long lasts since we’re highschool until now, we’re in different college and city. But we’re still connected with each other. Every semester we meet and share our story about life or anything. Friendship is a kind of ukhuwah. That’s why I called we’re a True Hijabi :)

In hijab, one should be able to do anything. Have fun, go to the beach, go shopping..and perform Salaah without having to hunt for an abaya. A true hijabi doesn’t cake on the make-up. And a true hijabi loves her hijab and wears it for the sake of Allah. This is me. This is who I strive to stay, inshaa Allah.
